A rotating drum or tube heats loose material evenly along its length, in several controlled zones. Lifting flights inside are designed around how sticky or dry the feed is so the material mixes properly. Heating is direct or indirect, electric or gas-fired.
Seals keep process atmosphere in and let fumes and off-gas leave safely, usually through a scrubber after cooling. Applications include carbon regeneration, drying of powders, ores and minerals, and calcining of alumina and ceramics. Tube material and rotation speed are chosen from your feed and output.
